Lab Tests Online Wins 2003 Associations Advance America Award of Excellence

April 10, 2003

April 10, 2003--Lab Tests Online has won the Award of Excellence in the 2003 Associations Advance America Awards program, a national competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

This prestigious award puts the site in the running to receive an ASAE Summit Award to be decided in June.

Since its launch at the end of July 2001, Lab Tests Online has become the premiere online resource for patient education on clinical laboratory testing. The site currently averages about 200,000 users a month and its pages are regularly among the top-ranked pages on Internet searches for laboratory tests and related information. In addition, Lab Tests Online is cited multiple times in such important consumer reference works as California's HMO Guide and the Food & Drug Administration web site.

The award is further acknowledgement of the impact that this professional collaboration is having on patients in the US and around the globe. Originally conceived and developed by five laboratory associations, content development for the site now involves representatives from 12 professional societies, including two from Canada. Members of these organizations have also been critical to efforts to spread the word about the site's availability.

Richard Flaherty, Executive Vice-President of AACC, accepted the award on behalf of the 12 professional societies, saying "We are excited that ASAE has recognized this collaboration and the contribution that Lab Tests Online has made to patient education."

In addition to AACC, the other 11 associations that produce the site include American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA), Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP), American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Society for Hematology (ASH), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA), Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists (CSCC), Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), and the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS).

Now in its 13th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward -- with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship, and community service.

"Lab Tests Online truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are marking to advance American society," remarked ASAE President Michael S. Olson, CAE.
