Lab Tests Online Recognized with ASAE Summit Award

August 14, 2003

August 14, 2003 Lab Tests Online has been selected by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) as one of six projects to be recognized with its 2003 Summit Award. The Award is ASAEs highest honor for associations that implement innovative projects to enhance American society at the local, state, or national level.

Conceived and produced by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), Lab Tests Online provides descriptions of laboratory tests in simple, easy-to-understand language. Each test page describes why a test is used, how and when it is used, and what the tests results might mean. Numerous links help users find additional related information on the site or elsewhere on the web.

Lab Tests Online currently averages more than 200,000 visits a month and its pages are regularly among the top-ranked pages on Internet searches for laboratory tests and related information. In addition, Lab Tests Online is cited multiple times in such important consumer reference works as Californias HMO Guide, NIHs Medline Plus web site, and the Food & Drug Administration web site. Yahoos Directory listings under Consumer Medical Advice identify Lab Tests Online as the most popular site in the category.

While AACC has spearheaded the project since its inception, content development for the site is a collaborative effort that today involves 14 laboratory associations. Members of the associations have also been instrumental in helping to promote the site. Lab Tests Online is supported through sponsorships from corporations in the diagnostics industry.

On behalf of all of the associations involved with Lab Tests Online, and the sponsors who support it, AACC is honored that ASAE has recognized Lab Tests Online and its contributions to patients and their families throughout the country, and even around the world, said Sue Evans, President of AACC. Our mutual goal is that Lab Tests Online will remove the veil of mystery that surrounds lab testing from the patients view and enhance doctor-patient communication about this vital component of medical care.

The other laboratory associations that have contributed to Lab Tests Online and share in the award include four organizations that joined the effort early in the first year of development. They are the American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), and Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA). The remaining partners include the American Society for Hematology (ASH), Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP), NCCLS, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists (CSCC), Clinical Ligand Assay Society (CLAS), and National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB).

Current corporate sponsors of the site include Bayer Healthcare Diagnostics, Beckman Coulter, Dade Behring, Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Roche Diagnostics, Diagnostic Products Corporation, MDS Diagnostics, Bio-Rad, Gen-Probe, Olympus Diagnostic Systems Group, Athena Diagnostics, CanAg Diagnostics, Diagnostic Systems Laboratories, Fujirebio Diagnostics, Hycor Biomedical, ITC, Lab-Interlink, Laboratory Health Care Coalition, Nanogen, Nichols Institute Diagnostics, Pharmacia Diagnostics, Randox, Results Direct, Sunrise Medical Laboratories, and Sysmex Corporation.
