August 29, 2005

August 29, 2005--Lab Tests Online ( has been recognized with a Silver Award for Patient Education in the 2005 Spring/Summer WWW Health Awards Program. The award, sponsored by the Health Information Resource CenterWWW Health Award logo (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for consumer health programs and materials, is the latest recognition for the laboratory communitys highly visible patient education web site. The site receives more than 500,000 visitors each month.

Launched in 2001, Lab Tests Online serves as a vital resource for laboratory test information for patients and their families. Busy medical professionals also use the site for quick reference. Constantly updated with new information, the site currently describes more than 200 tests and provides insights into a range of related laboratory topics, including screening recommendations, reference ranges, and genetic testing.

A version of Lab Tests Online adapted to the United Kingdom was launched there in 2004. Translations of the site are being developed in German, Italian, and Spanish.

Lab Tests Online is the product of a collaboration of laboratory organizations, led by AACC. The sites accomplishments result from the volunteer efforts of members of each organization who serve on the sites Editorial Review Board. Many other association members have also helped promote the site among their colleagues and to patients and their families, an important factor in driving monthly traffic above the half million mark.

AACC is an international scientific/medical society of clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, research scientists and other individuals involved with clinical chemistry and other clinical laboratory science-related disciplines.

Other sites recognized in the Patient Education category include St. Lukes Hospital (Silver) and the Mayo Clinic (Bronze). Credibility, completeness, and relevance of information were among the judging criteria
