Lab Tests Online Gains Support of AAB, AAFP-PT

March 4, 2008

March 4, 2008--The American Association for Clinical Chemistry announced today that two more laboratory organizations have agreed to collaborate on the development of Lab Tests Online, the award-winning patient-education website. The American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) and the American Academy of Family Physicians Proficiency Testing division (AAFP-PT) become the 18th and 19th laboratory organizations to join an effort that has increased visibility of the laboratory profession at the rate of more than one million visitors a month.

We welcome the participation of both AAB and AAFP-PT, said AACC President, Larry Broussard. As we expand participation among the laboratory community, we make an already phenomenal website even better.

As the newest Collaborating Partners, the two organizations have each designated a representative to participate on the Lab Tests Online Editorial Review Board. The Board is responsible for the sites highly regarded content, meeting bi-weekly to review new material for the site and to ensure that existing content is up-to-date.

AAB and AAFP-PT will also promote the site to their members. Since Lab Tests Onlines launch in 2001, the memberships of each partner organization have been very effective in spreading word of the site to patients and their families by talking to friends and colleagues, establishing links on websites, and distributing countertop displays. An AACC survey indicates that 14% of users, in fact, learn of the site via the displays that members place in patient waiting areas.

According to Chris Hodges, manager of AAFP-PT Client Services, The AAFP-PT looks forward to the partnership with Lab Tests Online, which provides our members and their patients an avenue to receive valuable clinical laboratory testing information. Good patient education like this is important for overall health and quality of life. "

Mr. Hodges will lead the effort to alert his members to the benefits of Lab Tests Online.

With 19 organizations now collaborating on the website, Lab Tests Online continues to be the primary patient education resource on lab testing, and a potent example of the vitality of the laboratory profession.
