Why get tested?
To help diagnose autoimmune type 1 diabetes; to help predict the development of type 1 diabetes in family members of those affected (for research purposes only)

When to get tested?
When a patient is first diagnosed with diabetes to help determine whether their diabetes is autoimmune-related; when a person with non-insulin-treated diabetes has great difficulty achieving glycemic control (e.g., cannot maintain normal or near-normal blood sugar levels)

Sample required?
A blood sample drawn from a vein in your arm
