1. Are there other uses for the SHBG test?
Not yet, but researchers are evaluating conditions in which there are changes in testosterone and SHBG levels to see if there may be additional clinical uses for the test.

2. Can I change my level of SHBG?
Not directly and there is no reason to do so. SHBG is used to evaluate a patient’s hormone balance. In some cases, testosterone and/or estrogen replacement therapy may be used to correct a deficiency. Researchers are now exploring the benefits and risks of testosterone replacement in elderly men (men undergoing “andropause”) and postmenopausal (or surgical menopausal) women. It will be some time before it is established whether and when this treatment is safe, effective, and clinically useful.
