Nurses Cite Lab Tests Online in Top 100
October 18, 2012
Lab Tests Online, a project of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, has been named one of the “100 Best Nursing Websites” by NursingbyNurses.com.
NursingbyNurses.com, an online community for RNs, LPNs, student nurses and other medical support staff, referred to Lab Tests Online as the “the ultimate on labs.”
“Lab Test Online is thrilled to be recognized by NursingbyNurses.com,” said D. Robert Dufour, MD, Executive Editor of Lab Tests Online. “We are honored that the nursing community has found the website to be the place to turn for an explanation of what is being tested and why, how and when a test is used, and what the results might mean.”
Although Lab Tests Online has been developed for patients, surveys and user feedback suggest that it is also regularly used by medical professionals. Physicians, physician assistants, laboratory scientists, and medical students have written to commend the site over the years. Informal survey data suggests that up to 20-25% of visitors are from the medical profession.
Lab Tests Online, a noncommercial, peer-reviewed patient resource on medical laboratory testing, is developed in the US by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) in collaboration with 16 other laboratory organizations. Launched in 2001 and based in Washington, DC, Lab Tests Online (labtestsonline.org) is today a global standard for patient education, with versions of the site localized for use in 15 other countries. Last year, 30 million patients, caregivers, and medical professionals from around the world visited a Lab Tests Online website for free information on hundreds of laboratory tests and screening recommendations.
AACC is a leading professional society dedicated to improving healthcare through laboratory medicine. Its more than 8,500 members are clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, research scientists, and others involved in developing tests and directing laboratory operations.
